Brownfields Program

Text Box: There is no current enforcement mechanism in place to appropriately address the ongoing problem of junk vehicles and this has lead to environmental concerns.   A Junk Vehicle Ordinance/Code, to reduce potential releases of hazardous substances pollutants or contaminants , will be developed with the assistance of the Solid Waste Workgroup (Environmental Health Staff, Environmental Dept. Staff, PMU board members, Utilities Director, Housing Dept. Director, Tribal Construction, Tribal Law Enforcement, Fish &Game, and other pertinent members)  The group will explore the possibility of having the Junk Vehicle 

Text Box: Ordinance/Code containing requirements to assess and cleanup any spills directly from improper storage of junk vehicles and junk vehicle areas will be inventoried as potential brownfields sites.  The ordinance/code is currently in draft form and will hopefully be finalized this fiscal year.  One public meeting will be held in each of the four communities for the community to review and comment on the draft code.  The code will then be submitted for legal review and finalized.  The Tribal Council will have final approval before code is adopted.  
Text Box: This fiscal year, staff will concentrate their efforts on obtaining copies of available residential drinking water well logs of residents/’community well within the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.  Copies of 


Text Box: well logs will be requested and obtained from entities such as the Indian Health Service, Ft. Belknap Housing Dept., and Mt Dept. of Natural Resources & Conservation.  Well logs obtained will be reviewed, filed 


Text Box: and eventually trans posed into a Microsoft Excel format.  The goal of this collection is to create a database accessible to FBIC tribal staff.
