Text Box: On July 13, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Fort Belknap Indian Community and Fort Belknap Environmental Department hosted a Law seminar to inform Tribal employees and the public about Federal Environmental Laws in Indian Country.
The Seminar was held at Fort Belknap Casino and the presenter was Lucy Simpson of the Indian Law  Resource Center in Helena, Montana along with Erin Farris also giving valuable information to the seminar attendees.  There was a total of 31 participants; 6 BIA employees and 25 Tribal Program employees. 
The seminar included an overview of Federal, 



Text Box: State, and Tribal Jurisdictions, Federal Administrative and Procedural Rules, and Federal Environmental Laws in Indian Country.
Various Tribal Programs were invited to attend the training.  It is important that Tribal Program personnel to become knowledgeable about Federal Environmental Laws in Indian Country, and how they relate to their own programs and/or activities conducted under their programs.
The Environmental Department staff is positive that all Tribal Program employees that attended the training will now have knowledge of Federal environmental laws and increased their technical capacity to

Text Box:      GREEN CLEANING PARTY
Text Box: On August 25-26, 2009 a Green Cleaning Party was held in all three communities on the Ft. Belknap Indian Reservation.  The goal of the party was to educate the public about the harmful effects of household cleaners and learning how to make safer alternative cleaning products.




Text Box: Helping with making the green cleaning products were Sherry Bishop, Tammy Rider, Ina Nez Perce, Roberta Messerly-Johnson and Allyson Kelley.  
Everyone that attended the cleaning party enjoyed making the products themselves and being able to learn about the

The elders especially enjoyed the party!  There were 40 attendees at the Agency , 23 in Lodge Pole, and 12 In Hays.  Door prize winners in each community were Michelle Lewis, Marcela Shortman, and Charity Boushie.
